Apple TV+ is the first streaming service to win the Best Picture Oscar, a feat Netflix and other providers have attempted but failed to achieve.
A total of three Oscars were given to the film “CODA,” including Best Picture, for Apple TV+. Los Angeles hosted the 94th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Apple TV+’s CODA has racked up a slew of accolades, but few will match its hat trick of Oscars, which includes Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
There has never been a streaming service Best Picture winner, which will irritate Netflix, which has been trying for far longer than Apple-owned streamer.
Overnight, Apple issued a press statement announcing the victory.
This evening, on behalf of everyone at Apple, we would like to express our deep gratitude to the Academy for their recognition of ‘CODA,'” said Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s senior vice president for Worldwide Video. Our staff throughout the globe join Siân, Troy, the producers, and everyone else involved in providing such a compelling portrayal of the Deaf community to viewers and shattering so many boundaries in the process. It’s been a joy to spread this positive message, which reminds us of the power of movies to unite people from all over the globe.
The 94th Academy Honors saw Apple TV+ win three awards, including best original series, best live-action short, and best animated short.
- “CODA” is the best film of the year.
- ‘CODA’s’ Troy Kotsur won the award for best supporting actor.
- CODA” by Siân Heder, with her award-winning screenplay.
The Morning Show and Ted Lasso helped Apple TV+ and CODA win a slew of prizes, but this year’s Oscars take the cake. This newest set of victories is the pinnacle of success for Apple TV+ to date.
