A fresh source claims that Apple’s suspected mixed reality headset has completed the most recent round of production testing, bringing the device closer to an official reveal.

DigiTimes says that Apple’s production testing are going smoothly in the midst of speculations that the firm would debut its mixed reality headset this year — a claim made by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and then tempered with the news that things may be postponed until next year. Although the DigiTimes storey was only a teaser for a more comprehensive investigation that would be released tomorrow, the real facts are still absent.

It does seem from the preview that vendors of headset component parts have indicated that a launch by the end of this year is on the cards after the completion of testing for EVT 2. On a smaller scale, this testing ensures that Apple’s specifications and criteria can be met by manufacturers.

For years, speculations have swirled around the notion of an AR/VR headgear. However, there is as yet little real evidence. Recent App Store logs have revealed references of realityOS, and rumours abound about fast Apple silicon and 4K screens.

Although Apple’s first mixed reality headset is expected to cost upwards of $2,000, it doesn’t seem like this is going to be a significant seller for the company, at least in the beginning.
