WhatsApp beta tests chat history transfers from Android to iOS

Starting with Samsung in August of last year, WhatsApp began allowing users to move their chat history from iOS to Android. This feature was subsequently rolled out to all Android 12 devices (in October). From Android to iOS the opposite way around is now in beta testing.

In order for everyone to benefit, it will take some time. However, in order to use WhatsApp beta, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Android 5 (Lollipop) or later, WhatsApp (Android) or later
  • iOS 15.5, WhatsApp (iOS) or later
  • Same phone number as on the old phone
  • Possible only during the initial setup of the iPhone

Locally, the transfer is carried out using the Apple’s Move to iOS program, which can be downloaded from the App Store. In order for this to work, both phones must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network (or a Wi-Fi hotspot).

Note that the Android device’s data will not be deleted automatically; you will have to do so yourself. Peer-to-peer payment messages and your WhatsApp call history will not be transmitted to the iPhone, even if your messages are transferred.
