The duration of videos on TikTok has been verified to be 10 minutes, regardless of whether or not people truly desire it.
Earlier this week, it was reported that TitTok was testing lengthier movies, but many people were sceptical. Now, though, the video-based social network has stated that it will continue to operate.
To TechCrunch, TikTok said that the new extension is a result of the company’s efforts to find new ways to serve its customers.
“A new approach to benefit our users is something we’re working on all the time. We added lengthier videos last year to give our community more time to create and enjoy TikTok “As stated by a TikTok spokeswoman in a press release. For the first time ever, we’re allowing users to post movies of up to 10 minutes, which we believe will open up a whole new universe of possibilities for our artists across the globe.”
Three minutes felt like a lot of time for a TikTok, but the 15-second restriction that the service debuted with made it feel even longer. In the past year or two, TikTok has slowly extended that duration restriction, and it seems that 15-minute films aren’t all that far away either.
All of this stems from a single source: advertising revenue. YouTube has already made great use of mid-roll advertising since longer films allow for them.
