The iPhone 14 Max may be the best phone of the year

In comparison to other flagships, Apple’s big-screen cheap phone could fall far behind

For now, the iPhone 14 Max appears to be inevitable. Apple is expected to discontinue the iPhone small in favour of this larger-display device, which would allow consumers to enjoy the benefits of a larger phone without having to shell out the extra cash for the higher-end model.

It looks excellent on paper. The iPhone 14 Max is expected to retail at $899 and have a 6.7-inch OLED display, excellent photo quality, and Apple’s A16 Bionic processor (we think). My recent argument has been that Samsung should be worried about the iPhone 14 Max, but this speculated Apple phone also has cause for concern.

As an upside, no Android chip has come close to matching the performance of Apple’s silicon in recent years, which bodes well for the iPhone 14 Max. We were able to get 12:16 of battery life out of the iPhone 13 Pro Max on our battery test, so I expect the iPhone 14 Max to do the same. Anything with a battery life of more than 10 hours is excellent, and anything with a battery life of more than 11.5 hours qualifies for inclusion on our list of the top smartphones for battery life.

The Google Pixel 6 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro are two of the most expensive flagship phones currently on the market at $899. The $999 Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is the closest thing to an iPhone 14 Max that the company has to offer. In addition to the Google Pixel 7, which you would expect to have a Pro version, there is also the Google Pixel 7, which was teased at Google I/O 2022, but little else is known about that device.

So why am I so concerned? The lack of an optical zoom is the iPhone 14 Max’s most serious flaw when compared to the competitors. There is speculation that Apple would save the telephoto zoom for its iPhone 14 Pro models, including the iPhone 14 Pro Max, even if this flagship is expected to increase image quality.

On the other hand, the Pixel 6 Pro’s 4x telephoto zoom and 20x digital zoom make it the most powerful camera on the market today. The Galaxy S22 Plus from Samsung has a 3x optical zoom and a digital zoom of up to 30 times.

To compete with these other camera phones, Apple will need to improve its digital zoom, which is currently limited to 5x on the iPhone 13. To be fair, the ability to zoom in closer on subjects when taking shots with my iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn’t always equate to better photos, but on occasions like my recent vacation to Virginia Beach, I’m glad I have the option. My son and daughter were wandering on the sand, and I was able to approach closer to a bird that was flying across the pool.

Expecting a powerful 10x zoom like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which also includes a ludicrous 120x Space Zoom (digital). As for Apple, it’s likely to wait until the iPhone 15 before adding a periscope zoom to its lineup. However, I don’t view an optical zoom as a function that should be reserved for the pros. It’s a no-brainer for a flagship that costs $899 or more.

Other factors could cause the iPhone 14 Max to fall behind its competitors. This covers the display’s refresh rate as well. Samsung, OnePlus, and Google’s Pixel 6 Pro all feature 120Hz displays. Smoother scrolling and better overall performance are made possible by higher refresh rates, especially when playing video games.

It appears that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will only have 120Hz ProMotion displays, according to speculations. Speculation has it that Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models will have a faster-than-nothing 90Hz display. However, at $599, the Pixel 6 is $200 less expensive than the iPhone 13 with its 60Hz display.) Pixel 6:

As a result of these difficulties, do I believe Apple will sell less iPhone 14 Max units? Nope. But I’d like to see a better big-screen deal from Apple next fall.
