Samsung Galaxy A53 is a direct competitor to Google Pixel 6a

After Samsung’s Galaxy A53 was unveiled last week, it didn’t take long to come up with potential competitors. It’s only reasonable to draw comparisons between the Galaxy A53 and the iPhone SE (2022), which was released on the same day. Also, the A53 and Google’s Pixel 5a both cost $449, so there’s a chance for a pricing war there.

For the most part, I believe that when Samsung came up with its wish list of features for the Galaxy A53, it had an altogether other phone in mind. Furthermore, this is an unreleased smartphone.

Samsung clearly has the Pixel 6a — Google’s next low-cost phone — on its mind as you go through its list of Galaxy A53 features. Google’s Pixel 5a successor is expected to include some of the same features seen in the A53.

Pixel 6a vs Galaxy A53: What’s Google up to?

Rumors say that Google’s annual I/O developer conference might see the launch of the Pixel 6a, which is a smaller version of the Pixel 6. Google I/O will begin on May 11th, less than a day before the Galaxy A53 goes on sale, as the company confirmed last week.

The Google Tensor processor, which powers the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, may be a feature of the Pixel 6a, which is Google’s cheap phone. Because it powers on-board machine learning and AI, Google’s phones can now take use of more sophisticated AI capabilities.

Features of the Samsung Galaxy A53

It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Samsung emphasised the AI capabilities of the Exynos 1280 chipset in the Galaxy A53, given Google’s concentration on marketing AI features. The 5nm Exynos 1280, according to Samsung, has a 31% increase in AI performance over the previous generation of Samsung’s chipsets.

Samsung spoke about the Galaxy A53’s ability to automatically alter the framerate of the video it captures depending on lighting conditions while discussing AI experiences. To better capture depth and subject outlines, the camera app on the new phone has received an upgrade in the form of an improved Portrait mode. When you take a picture, the phone’s Fun mode adds augmented reality effects.

Samsung also spoke about the Galaxy A53’s Object Eraser, which can use AI to eliminate undesired people and objects from images, in what sounds like the most direct dig at Google and its Pixel phones. Like Google’s Magic Eraser, which is available on its Pixel 6 phones and is expected to be available on the Pixel 6a, this sounds a lot like it.

These Galaxy A53 features are all connected to the phone’s camera, so it’s definitely not a coincidence. The Pixel 5a is one of the greatest camera phones on the market, particularly for a phone with such a low price. Samsung seems to be trying to reduce the gap between its mid-range devices and Google’s offerings by improving the camera on the Galaxy A52.

You can’t help but notice that the Galaxy A53 costs $50 less than the A52, which is a significant difference. It’s evident that Samsung wants to draw parallels to Google’s phones by comparing the Galaxy A53 with the Pixel 5a, which costs the same as the Pixel 5a.

A comparison of the Samsung Galaxy A53 and the Google Pixel 6a

We’ll have to put off making such comparisons for a while. While the Galaxy A53 won’t be available until April 1, preorders may be placed now. While the Pixel 6a and Galaxy A53 are expected to be on sale later this spring, we won’t be able to judge how they stack up until a few more information emerge about the phone.

While the Galaxy A series has been steadily expanding over the last several years, Samsung has stepped up its game with its newest mid-range phone. Now, the Galaxy A53 will be judged solely on its own merits, but a Pixel 6a-sized threat is on the way as well.
