Poco M4 Pro review

While it was initially expected that the Poco M3 Pro will have both a 4G and 5G variant, the 5G model was the only one to be released last year. This year, we received a 4G version, despite the fact that the 5G version had already been released.

The Poco M4 Pro, on the other hand, is more than just a network generating switch. As an example, the AMOLED display is a first for the M-series, which had previously only employed LCD displays. Until now, AMOLED was only available on the Poco F phones. The LCDs were unable to achieve this level of brightness (700 nits typical vs. 450 nits, 1,000 nits peak). You can see that the refresh rate hasn’t changed, but the touch sampling rate has (was 240 Hz on the 5G model).

But the 4G M4 Pro’s display is still less than the 5G M4 Pro’s (6.6″) and even smaller than the previous M3 Pro 5G’s (6.5″). This phone is much more comfortable to hold because to its reduced width and reduced thickness of roughly 2 mm and 0.8 mm, respectively. For dust and water resistance, the phone boasts an IP53 certification and Gorilla Glass 3 on the front.

In spite of its reduced size, the battery still has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and a charging speed of 33W. You can reach 100% in less than an hour, according to official statistics. That’s something we’ll try in our review. The 5G version (with the same capacity and the same charger) was a few minutes slower than the stated goal time..

A 33W charger is included in the retail box of the phone (we also found a USB-C cable, plus a transparent case). With a starting price of €220 (MSRP), the M4 Pro seeks to impress its admirers in other ways as well despite its affordability. Expandable storage (microSD slot), Hi-Res Audio 3.5mm headphones, Dual Speakers, an Infrared blaster, and NFC are all included.

Changing from 5G to 4G requires, as you may have guessed, a new chipset. A Helio G96 replaces the Dimensity 810 5G. The two chips, other from the modem, utilise the identical hardware (A76 CPU cores, Mali G57 MC2 GPU). We anticipate the 4G model to behave similarly to the 3G variant based on our experiences with the G96. Dimensity, on the other hand, employs a younger node (6nm vs. 12nm), hence it may be difficult to achieve the same 123-hour Endurance rating as the 5G model.

We should point out that, despite the fact that the phone comes with MIUI 13 pre-installed, it is an Android 11-based version (same as the 5G model).

The video recording is also affected by the chipset. The M4 Pro 5G, like previous M-series phones, can’t record 4K video, but it does have 1080p video at 60 fps. With the 4G version, you can only achieve 30 frames per second.

While the Poco M3 Pro 5G has a 48MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra wide camera, the Poco M3 Pro 5G had a 64MP sensor and an 8MP ultra wide camera (118°). In addition, the front-facing camera has a resolution of 16MP compared to 8MP.

This phone is very identical to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11S, which is currently available in Europe. However, the 11S features a 108MP primary camera (1/1.56″), which costs €250 and comes with 64 GB of storage. As a result, the M4’s memory option of 6/128 GB will cost you €280. There’s no 8/256 GB option on the 11S either. You may save a lot of money depending on how much you value your camera (especially if you catch the early bird deals). Source
