The new “Tap to Pay” functionality revealed by Apple this morning has been included to the second beta of iOS 15.4. Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets may all be used with “Tap to Pay on iPhone,” which is intended to work with NFC-compatible iPhones.
The current beta of Tap to Pay for iPhone has it enabled, but it is not yet accessible for usage since third-party providers must add support. End customers won’t see any obvious indications of it, but a new “PaymentReceived” sound clip and graphics demonstrate the Tap to Pay user interface’s capabilities.
Apple on Tuesday released iOS 15.4 beta 2 to developers after the unveiling of the “Tap to Pay” feature, which converts the iPhone into a contactless payment terminal. With the newest beta of Apple’s mobile operating system, Tap to Pay capability for the iPhone has been included.
Companies like Stripe and Shopify are collaborating with the firm to make advantage of the iPhone’s NFC chip. Users will be able to utilise their iPhone as a contactless card reader to accept payments from others.
Users must register with the Apple Business Register and transmit information about their business to Apple in order to utilise Tap to Pay on an iPhone. Additionally, the functionality is compatible with shop cards and reward passes.
The user interface also makes it clear that the functionality is compatible with “any other contactless payment devices,” such as Google Pay and Samsung Pay, in addition to contactless cards and Apple Pay. This feature is only accessible on the iPhone XR/XS and later thanks to Apple’s previously disclosed Background Tag Reading technology.
On iPhone this spring, Apple will begin testing Tap to Pay, and it will be rolled out to additional payment systems by year-end. There’s no word yet on when Tap to Pay will be accessible on iPhones outside of the United States.

Apps that enable Tap to Pay will be able to collect payments from other iPhone users when using an iPhone XS or later. While shopping, a retailer may request that customers keep their iPhones or Apple Watches near the merchant’s iPhone in order to process a payment using Near Field Communication (NFC).
Customers of Stripe, including Shopify users, will be the first to benefit from Tap to Pay on the iPhone later this year. Later this year, Apple Stores in the United States will be able to take use of the functionality as well.
