In the early days of webmail services, continually deleting mails to free up space was unavoidable. Google altered everything: with terabytes of free space, Gmail users could just let their old email build up in case they wanted to dig out a five-year-old communication.
However, sometimes you just want a new start, and if you have hundreds of worthless old emails lying around, you may be concerned that the procedure may take some time. Fortunately, Gmail provides a feature that allows you to delete all of your emails at once, leaving you with a clean inbox to begin again. Here’s how to delete all of your emails in Gmail at once. 1. Select the category of email you want to delete
Gmail categorises emails into Primary, Social, and Promotions categories, which may be beneficial or unpleasant depending on your perspective.
The simplest approach to remove all emails in Gmail is to go through each category one by one, which I’ll do in this lesson with the “Promotions” portion. With a click, select the tab you wish to clear.
2. Press the tick box to select all
A little check box, noted above, is nestled between the search bar and the tab selection. If you check it, every email on the page will be picked. However, if you have more than 50 emails to delete, this will not get rid of everything, so we’ll address that in the following step.
3. Add in the emails not displayed on the page
When you click the checkbox, everything on the page (excluding the inbox advertising) is chosen, but an easily missed text will show above the tab selection: “All 50 talks on this page have been chosen.” In Promotions, select all X discussions.” When you press the second phrase, everything in the category will be highlighted as ready to be deleted.
4. Hit the delete button
Press the fourth symbol near the bottom of the search bar, which is shaped like a garbage can. You’ll get a popup asking whether you’re certain you want to delete that many emails, so make your choice.
5. Await confirmation
This will take some time if you have a large number of emails. Even though I only had 3,404 items to clear, it took around 15 seconds.
Once the procedure is complete, you will get a little confirmation pop-up in the lower left-hand corner, as seen below. It’s also worth noting that this doesn’t appear to have removed everything, but a short refresh proved that everything was really gone.
6. Empty the trash and repeat the process for other tabs
You don’t need to do anything else, so this is an optional step, but your deleted emails will remain in your trash bin for 30 days until Google deletes them.
If you want to speed things up, go to the Trash folder and clear it manually. Repeat steps 2-6 for the Primary and Social tabs, and your Gmail account will be totally emptied.
