AirTag detection for Android might be on the way.
The ability to recognise Apple AirTags and other Bluetooth trackers by default and without the need to install any additional applications may be coming to Android from Google.
It seems that Google is working on a mechanism to identify trackers by analysing code included in the current version of Google Play Services. “Unfamiliar device alerts,” “Unfamiliar Tag Detected Notification,” and “Tile tag,” which seem like unique IDs for Tile trackers and Apple AirTags, were detected.
In addition to these messages, another piece of code shows that users will also be able to ring the tag to assist them locate it.
The option to search for erroneous tags should be enabled by default in Android, making it much simpler for users to detect them. Because of the tag’s ability to follow individuals even when they aren’t wearing it, there is a lot of worry about AirTag safety right now.
Apple’s new iOS 15.4 update makes it simpler to locate wayward AirTags, but Android users won’t benefit from the improvement. Rather, the Tracker Detect Android app is available, allowing users to look for AirTags in their immediate vicinity. Even without an account on Tile, you may utilise the Scan and Secure function, which is available on the Tile app. Both of these, however, can only be used manually rather than continually in the background, and the Tile version necessitates that you shift places while scanning.
It’s possible that Google hasn’t made a final decision on whether or not to implement this functionality yet. However, we’ll be keeping a careful check on the upcoming release of Android 13 to see whether it includes a Google-made solution to the issue of unwanted monitoring.
