We had our first glimpse at Hogwarts Legacy gameplay last week during a PlayStation State of Play devoted to the Harry Potter RPG, and we were pleased. The game’s high pricing and absence of an upgrade route for PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles are less impressive.

Pre-orders for Hogwarts Legacy have begun surfacing at various shops after last week’s gameplay presentation, and it seems that the game will cost $70 on next-generation systems. Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 are both PlayStation exclusives, however Elden Ring, which was released for $60, is more costly than the regular retail price of $60.

It will cost $60 on PS4 and Xbox One, but those who want to play on the next-generation devices will have to pay an extra fee. Awful surprises have been discovered in advance orders for Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows: The Legacy, and things are only going to get worse from here.

It seems that there will be no way to play Hogwarts Legacy on the next generation of consoles. Players who buy a cross-generation game like Elden Ring on PS4/Xbox One may upgrade to the PS5/Xbox Series X version for free. As far as I know, Hogwarts Legacy isn’t following suit.

Some titles like Horizon Forbidden West have provided a $10/£10 next-gen upgrade option, while the pre-order advertisements for Hogwarts Legacy make no mention of this as an option at all.

Games looking for PS5 restocks or Xbox Series X preorders might benefit from free or even paid upgrades to the next-generation consoles. The upgrade route lets players who are still playing on last-generation consoles to acquire the game and continue playing when they switch to a newer system.

Those who choose the less expensive Hogwarts Legacy PS4/Xbox One version should still be able to play it on the more expensive PS5/Xbox Series X version thanks to backward compatibility. The native next-gen version, on the other hand, is not going to provide you access to particular improvements like a better frame rate and quicker loading times.

Digital pre-orders have not yet gone live at the time of this writing, and the existing pre-order information may just be placeholder information. For the time being, it seems that purchasing a copy of Hogwarts Legacy will restrict you to a single platform, so think again before clicking the pre-order button.

A holiday 2022 release date for Hogwarts Legacy has been set, but a Nintendo Switch version has also been announced, but no pre-order information has been released just yet. A recent gameplay demo of Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter RPG, has generated a lot of buzz, and it’s easy to see why.
