On Tuesday, the Braehead retail mall in Glasgow was forced to close when a fire broke out inside an Apple store.
The Braehead Shopping Centre’s western end was evacuated at 4:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to the Scottish Sun. According to a second storey from the Glasgow Times, four fire engines were sent to the area because an Apple Store battery was burning when the alarm went off.
Following reports of a fire, firefighters rushed to Braehead Shopping Centre early today.
A fire at the Apple Store was reported to the fire department at 4:22 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8th.
Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported that four of their units responded to the incident.
Thanks to a sand bucket, firefighters were able to put out a “burning battery.”
When a customer brings in an inflated or ruptured battery for repair, the Genius Bar sees this all the time. For example, some shops employ a “battery safe” to keep potentially hazardous or volatile batteries, and the Genius Bar and Operations teams of Apple stores are educated on techniques to manage bloated or possibly dangerous batteries to prevent such events.
Apple’s Braehead shop is one of two in Glasgow and one of four in Scotland, making it one of the largest Apple stores in the country. Despite the events from yesterday, the Braehead shop is operating as usual today.
