The following is what the family said on Twitter: “Jimmy passed away on July 6th, and we’d want to share the sad news with you. Because of the outpouring of love and sincere sympathies, the family appreciates your continued respect for their privacy at this time of loss.”

Pierce Brosnan paid tribute to James’ “inspirational” co-star Pierce Brosnan on social media immediately after his death in the upcoming action film ‘Fast Charlie.’

Pierce captioned an Instagram snapshot of the two of them on site with the following: “”Fast Charlie” star James Cann [sic] and I bid him farewell on the set of the film. During our five days in New Orleans, we shared many a joke. Seeing you work every day in spite of excruciating physical agony and discomfort was an inspiration to me as a young actor just starting out.”
