Disney+ might get a more affordable and ad-supported version soon

The Information claims that subscriber growth has slowed recently, and a lower membership tier might help reverse this trend. At the two-year point after the service started, Disney had more over 118 million users, and it currently has over 130 million. As of 2024, Disney intends to have between 230 and 260 million paying customers.

A number of other media giants have also begun offering a range of content at various pricing ranges, including Discovery, NBCUniversal, WarnerMedia, and Paramount. An ad-supported option for Disney+ would cost less than the current $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year subscription fee.

Ad-supported subscriptions like Discovery+ and Paramount+’s $4.99 tier might help Disney offset programming expenses by generating more money. Up until this point, Disney has consistently added high-profile new material to its Disney+ subscription service, which it expects to cost at least $8 billion per year by 2024.

We’d be left with only Apple TV+ and Netflix as the only two streaming providers that don’t have an advertising-supported alternative. Even though Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month, it doesn’t have as much content as other streaming services since it lacks original programming. Source
