A Samsung representative has responded to our request for further information and provided a video showing the display problem in Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Although the Samsung Galaxy S22 will be available in just a few short days, certain variants of the Galaxy S22 Ultra may arrive with a defective display.
9to5 sourced Reddit complaints.
While viewing video or playing games, some early adopters of the Galaxy S22 Ultras powered by an Exynos 2200 CPU are experiencing what seems to be TV static across the width of the display.
Even the S22 Ultra’s always-on display and lock screen were affected by the problem. However, ignore the flickering, which seems to be the result of the camera used to capture the video.
All of the affected S22 Ultra screens have been set to 1440p (QHD) resolution with Samsung’s natural colour profile, which seems to be the cause of the problem. You can get around this issue by altering one of these settings, but if you prefer natural to vibrant colours or want to make advantage of the S22 Ultra’s maximum display resolution, it’s a bummer that they must be altered in order to use the phone correctly.
Note that only Galaxy S22 Ultra phones with the Exynos 2200 processor seem to be affected by this display fault, and not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version that American and Chinese customers get. Although additional investigation is needed to prove this, it is prompting worry that the problem is hardware-based, as a software issue would potentially impact both versions of the phone.

In response to a lengthy discussion concerning similar display issues, a moderator on Samsung’s Community Forum offered the following remark, which seems to be a statement from Samsung:
“When the client plays YouTube or unlocks the smartphone using fingerprints, a small number of Galaxy S22 Ultra devices show a pixelated line on the screen.
WQHD resolution and Natural screen mode may cause this problem on occasion.
As soon as possible, we’ll be releasing software updates to fix the problem on Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Until then, we suggest setting your device’s display to Vivid or FHD+ resolution.
Also, make sure your devices are running the most recent versions of their software.”
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in our Galaxy S22 Ultra review sample has not shown any signs of the aforementioned concern.
