We now know the identity of Dead by Daylight’s newest murderer

Dead by Daylight’s next assassin will emerge from her well in March of this year.

Under March, Dead by Daylight will introduce a new licenced murderer and survivor to the survival horror game, which is currently in development.

Taking inspiration from Kji Suzuki’s Ringu book and cult film, the Sadako Rising chapter of Dead by Daylight has the scary Sadako (known in-game as The Onry) climbing out of her well and into the fog.

Known for her long, black hair that conceals her face and her white robe, Sadako was Ringu’s major nemesis and an expert at unleashing her lethal curse through videotapes and television sets.

Sadako will be just as terrifying, if not more so, in Dead by Daylight. With her Manifestation talent, Sadako will be able to assault the survivors by travelling between the Psychic Realm (where she is invisible across a 32-meter range of the victims) and the physical world. When Sadako’s Projection is activated, she will be able to project herself via television sets around the map, adding Condemned progress to any survivors within 16 metres. After they are completely Condemned, they may be killed once they have fallen. However, if the survivors have a videotape, they will be able to switch off these TV sets.

But Sadako isn’t the only one making an appearance in this chapter of Dead by Daylight. Yoichi Asakawa, the only Ringu figure to escape Sadko’s curse, is the perfect choice to take on her.

Not at all, in my opinion

There is presently a public test version of Dead by Daylight, and from what I’ve seen so far in streams, Sadako seems to be one of the most disturbing murderers ever with her unclean fingernails, concealed face and ability to just vanish into the Psychic Realm. As a teenager, I spent many restless nights after witnessing Ringu for the first time because of her ability to crawl out of television sets. Behaviour Interactive seems to have included some jump scares for Sadako, but we won’t reveal what they are just yet.

Scream’s Ghostface, Halloween’s Michael Myers, and Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head are among the licenced Dead by Daylight murderers who now include Sadako. These characters, however, cannot be purchased using Irridescent Shards, the in-game money of Dead by Daylight. In other words, if you want to frighten the living daylights out of the survivors, you’ll have to foot the bill.
