This month, Apple unveiled the Studio Display, which received a mixed response from reviewers. The monitor, which has a camera, speakers, and a 5K display, cost $1599. As a result, Samsung is now working on a display that is almost identical to Apple’s, but costs half the price.
Samsung announced today that pre-orders for its 32-inch Smart Monitor M8 have begun, which boasts USB-C charging, AirPlay compatibility, and a number of smart TV capabilities.
Starting at $699, the M8 smart monitor has a 32-inch display, a built-in camera, speakers, and other smart capabilities. “The new monitor aims to meet the lifestyle and tastes of all sorts of people,” said Samsung Electronics’ Kyounghoon Kim, executive vice president and head of design for the company’s Visual Display Business.
“We wanted to design a product that could be used by individuals from different walks of life and all sorts of tastes. The ‘Shades of Nature’ concept inspired the M8’s colour scheme, which has four distinct hues. On a bright sunny day, relaxing in the lush green forest, or eventually basking in the warmth of a sunset, there is nothing better than soaking in the natural beauty of nature.”
Removable camera, wide-array microphone, speakers and height adjustable stand are among the features included in the 32-inch 4K HDR HDR display AirPlay 2 is also supported, as well as several streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.
The Smart Monitor M8 is a productivity powerhouse. Connecting to a variety of IT devices through the updated Smart Hub allows the M8 to function well as a PC-free home office solution. In addition to Samsung DeX, Apple AirPlay 2, and Microsoft 3652 cloud service, Workspace User Interface provides a comprehensive variety of helpful capabilities, including mirroring content from a smartphone to the M8 and wirelessly connecting to a Windows or Mac PC.
Additional features include a magnetic and detachable SlimFit Cam that can be attached to the Smart Monitor M8 and eliminate the need for unsightly cords from cluttering up your desk. Face Tracking and Auto Zoom are also included in the SlimFit Cam, which quickly identifies a person’s face and automatically focuses on the topic. There’s no better way to record an active presentation or webcast than with this camera. This display is also compatible with video chat programmes like Google Duo, making it possible to work from home or in the office while still utilising the SlimFit Cam.
The M8 has a built-in SmartThings Hub running Tizen OS, allowing it to connect wirelessly to IoT devices, unlike standard monitors. Additionally, you can use the display to stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Apple TV without the need for a PC or TV.
Two 5W speakers are included, as well as a built-in Far Field Voice microphone and two 5W speakers. A magnetic 1080p SlimFit webcam with Face Tracking and Auto Zoom features is also included.
With the monitor’s extensive feature set comes adaptive picture technology, which automatically adjusts the brightness and colour temperature of the display to make viewing more comfortable. The M8’s tilt and height-adjustable stand (HAS) make it easy for users to select the ideal viewing angle for whatever project, movie night, or study session they have planned.
Warm White, Sunset Pink, Daylight Blue, and Spring Green are the four colour options for the M8 monitor. If it performs well, it might undercut Apple’s new Studio Display for customers looking for an all-in-one external display.
