Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Netflix has decided not to run Russian propaganda channels on its site.
The new Russian rule would require streaming providers in the country to transmit at least 20 Russian broadcast channels, including the state-funded Channel One, if it goes into force. The Russian media regulator, Roskomnadzor, maintains a list of content distributors that may reach more than 100,000 customers, according to Variety.
According to a Netflix official who declined to be identified, the streaming service has no intentions to add any of these channels to its service “given the current scenario.”
Channel One has been promoting Russia as a hero in eastern Ukraine rather than an invader, so this is reasonable. As well as a U.S.-based firm. Netflix’s refusal to comply with Russia’s possible new legislation is also expected.

Disney, Sony, and Warner Bros. have all put a halt to Russian movie releases in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, joining Netflix in this streaming and content resistance. As long as Russia’s army is in Ukraine, the likes of Turning Red, Morbius, and The Batman will not be shown in Russian cinemas.
