Meta quest pro leaks on video, shows new headset and controller design

The “Meta Quest Pro” brand will be used to market the Project Cambria VR headset that Meta has been hinting at intermittently. This name makes it apparent that the product is more sophisticated than the Quest 2 currently available. The headgear will be introduced in October, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg (so far, we’ve only seen brief demos on YouTube with the headset pixelated).

Ramiro Cardenas, however, uploaded a video of a Quest Pro engineering sample, showcasing the design and the new controllers.

The headset features three color cameras on the front, which will enable color passthrough. This will be a boon for AR applications. It also helps that they are aimed forward, whereas the Quest cameras are intended for motion tracking first, AR second (that’s why they are black and white too). The headset itself seems a lot thinner than the Quest 2, suggesting that it uses new optics. That should make it more comfortable to wear.

As for the controllers, the big ring of the old controllers is gone, making the new ones noticeably more compact. That aside, they seem to have the same hardware controls on board.

Although the Meta Quest Pro will be on sale this year, the firm has displayed a number of cutting-edge prototypes for the future generation of VR headsets. Meta will ultimately separate its services into enthusiast and professional lines.
