The hole-punch replacement for the notch on the alleged “iPhone 14 Pro” looks to be significantly larger than first expected for the iPhone 14 series, according to a reported new schematic.
Claims about the “iPhone 14 Pro” and its larger sibling, the “iPhone 14 Pro Max,” suggest that Apple is ditching the notch in favour of hole-punch and pill-shape cuts. However, a leak suggests that the design may not have reduced the amount of encroachment into the display as much as previously supposed.
The display of an iPhone 14 model is seen with the hole-punch and pill pattern at the top of the display in a picture provided to Weibo and subsequently confirmed as a genuine leak by leaker Jon Prosser.
There are several discrepancies between the picture and the purported presentation rendered by Prosser. When compared to renderings, the picture suggests that the display gaps are about twice as wide as previously thought.
If this is the case, the double-hole design might gobble up a lot of display space, but not necessarily as much as the current notch design. Whether Apple does go forward with it, the larger size may make it more obvious to customers, but it remains to be seen if upgraders will be turned off by it.
Whether the dual-hole design will be included in the non-Pro “iPhone 14” variants is still up in the air, although current rumours point to it only being available on the Pro models. However, it has also been proposed that the notch might remain on the non-Pro models for another year. Ahole-punch cameras could be utilised instead.
Other speculations claim that the back camera hump will be removed and that the camera sensor will be upgraded from 12MP to 48MP. Source
