WatchOS 8.5 for Apple Watch and tvOS 15.4 for the Apple TV have made it possible to validate Apple TV purchases from the wrist.
For both one-time purchases like movies and in-app purchases on Apple TV, this new verification technique works. The process is outlined in the stages that follow.
For Apple TV owners, a new feature has been added that will make it easier for them to make purchases on their Apple Watch (before and still works on iPhone/iPad as well).
For one-time purchases and subscriptions in the Movies app/iTunes Store, Apple TV+ app, and third-party applications on tvOS, the Apple Watch or iPhone authorisation works.
- Make sure your Apple TV is running the latest tvOS 15.4 version (Settings -> System -> Software Updates) and that your Apple Watch is running the most recent watchOS 8.5 version (General -> Software Update on your iPhone).
- Password protection is enabled by default under Settings -> Users & Accounts. To enable it, go to Required Password -> Purchases -> Always. A half-hour later
- Even if your iPhone is within range of the Apple TV, you will be asked to double-click the Side button on your Apple Watch to approve the transaction. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you may use this method as well. Once you’ve been approved, there’s nothing further you need to do.
It’s possible to manually input your password by swiping down on the Apple TV Remote and selecting Confirm with Password if you don’t have an iOS smartphone nearby.
A new feature in watchOS 8.5 is the ability to remotely recover an Apple Watch from an iPhone, in addition to verifying transactions made via Apple TV.
