Like Samsung’s foldables, the Google Pixel Fold might include twin home screens.
The Google Pixel Fold may be revealed in the Android 13 beta. Even though it doesn’t directly relate to a Google foldable, it shows the firm is considering ways to integrate folding phones into Android.
In the Android 13 Developer Preview 1, Google may make a Google Pixel 4 XL display the tablet version of the Android interface, featuring a taskbar and a redesigned layout. Except for a few icons that may have issues, these layouts are kept when switching between the two modes.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and prior Folds function similarly with two home screens. While you may choose to make the inner display match the outside display (like the Oppo Find N), you get two unique configurations of applications and widgets by default.
It suggests Google has been thinking about how to better support foldable devices and tablets. If the Pixel Fold (or Pixel Notepad) is actually coming soon, this is essential foundation.
Google already improved tablet support in Android 12L. Making its OS operate well on bigger displays will also help prepare it for a foldable tablet. This dual home screen feature might be included in Android 12L before the final release.
The Pixel foldable is yet to be given a firm launch date. It’s said to cost roughly $1,400, with a squarer Find N design, and include a single 12MP back camera and two 8MP front cameras. If this phone does truly launch in 2022, we’re hoping for more specific details shortly.
