HBO sent a press statement on February 4, 2022, announcing that the third season of Euphoria will air. Keeping the show on the air seemed like a no-brainer since it’s now the most talked-about show on television and dominates the debate online as it airs. There were more than 14 million viewers across platforms, which is more than twice the average audience for Season 1, which had 6.6 million viewers per episode, according to HBO’s boasts about the show’s popularity. The season two premiere episode debuted as the most watched episode of any HBO series on HBO Max.
Cassie and Lexi’s talk and Fezco leading Nate Jacobs bloodier than a rare steak made the second season opener the most social premium cable programme since Game of Thrones’s series conclusion (HBO’s words).
Preliminary rumours about the release date of Euphoria season 3
Season 3 of Euphoria will undoubtedly have a wait, but the duration of that wait will depend, in part, on the likelihood of snags along the way.
We have no idea when Euphoria’s seasons were written, so we’ll have to rely on other sources. It was reported in June 2018 that HBO has ordered a full season of the programme, and the series premiered in June 2019 after the cast of Euphoria season 1 was revealed. In July of this year, it was revealed that there will be a second season.
Euphoria season 2 was shot between April and November 2021 following a Covid-19-related delay.
Season 3 of Euphoria should be completed in around 11 months, barring any more setbacks. However, there’s a major caveat. In addition to Dune Part 2, Zendaya is filming a romantic drama about tennis players, Challengers. Who knows whether she’ll be able to squeeze in Euphoria season 3?
All of this leads us to believe that the release date for Euphoria season 3 may be as late as 2024, at the earliest.
Suspicions around the potential cast of Euphoria season 3
Euphoria season 2 finale spoilers are here again!
Season 3 of Euphoria will almost certainly have the original cast members. Javon Walton is unlikely to reprise his role as Ashtray, after he was shot dead by police in a restroom (after he shot Fezco and many cops).
Is there any chance we’ll see more of Hunter Schafer and Barbie Ferreira next season? As soon as Rue began banging on doors, Jules seemed to lose interest, and what about Kat? One need not have read The Daily Beast’s article on the turmoil that occurred behind the scenes to have grounds to suspect Ferreira was involved. Kat, who was formerly a central character in the series, has been on screen just a few times.
Suggestions for the third season of Euphoria
Rue and Jules’ relationship is the central storey thread that seems to be unresolved for the time being. Did Rue’s collapse at the worst intervention ever cause lasting damage? Jules’ reconciliation effort in the season 2 finale seemed to be somewhat successful, but not to the extent she had hoped for.
Fezco’s (likely) imprisonment and Ashtray’s (definitely) death in the aftermath of the season 2 finale are likely to have a significant impact on the future of the show. Lexi’s play, save for the point when Maddy smacked Cassie’s face against the brick wall, will get a favourable review (though it looks like she only got a bloody nose for her troubles).
After Nate called the police on his father, the Jacobs family is likewise likely irrevocably ruined. Are Jules and Cal also on the flash drive?
In addition, Rue owes Laurie money, and there’s still the mystery of what or who is locked up in Laurie’s mansion.
