Microsoft’s browser is at the heart of a new widget that promises to make it easy to get right to your favourite websites from your desktop.

Microsoft Edge will get a news feed widget in Windows 11 that no one will use

The new Microsoft Edge Bar, which is part of Windows 11, has a sidebar that can be pinned to your desktop and offers a customised news feed that includes updates on entertainment, stocks, sports, and whatever else you’d like, according to WindowsLatest.

Microsoft Edge Bar

The new Edge Bar, similar to Windows 10’s “cards”-based start menu, delivers weather, news, and headlines that may be personalised by the user. Selecting a storey allows them to pick whether they want to view more or less of a certain region, as well as hide all items from a specific news outlet if they want.

A search feature, powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engine, allows users to rapidly make inquiries or just input a complete URL to start the browser. Users may further customise the widget by pinning their favourite or most-used applications or programmes to the Edge Bar, which includes Outlook, LinkedIn, and Bing, according to reports.

According to reports, the Edge Bar remains visible on your desktop long after Edge has been closed, which might possibly obstruct your vision while switching between programmes.

There’s no word on when Edge Bar will be released, but given Microsoft’s proclivity for releasing updates and changes to its browser, we don’t expect it to take long.

The announcement comes after Microsoft announced a series of impending improvements that would make Edge the default online browser for Microsoft 365 productivity suite subscribers.

Edge, for example, will soon open files in whichever profile was active when the link was clicked, even though users are frequently signed into personal and professional Microsoft accounts at the same time.

On Oct. 5, Windows 11 became available to eligible devices, bringing with it a fresh new appearance and a slew of new features geared at simplifying your PC and making you more productive. These new features will make your life simpler whether you’re using your smartphone at home or at work.

Keep in mind that Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 in stages, so not everyone will get it right away. The older your gadget, the longer you may have to wait for an upgrade prompt.

Android apps

What it is: Android applications will be directly embedded into Windows 11 via the new Microsoft Store, which has been a long time coming for Windows users. However, keep in mind that Android app compatibility will not be included in the first release of Windows 11; it will arrive in the following months.

Though you could run Android applications on your Windows 10 PC in some situations (for example, if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone), Windows 11 will be the first time you can download them straight to your PC. (To learn everything there is to know about Android applications on Windows 11, go here.)

Android applications will be available in the new Microsoft Store via Amazon’s Appstore once Windows 11 can handle them. To access the approximately 500,000 applications available on the Amazon Appstore, like Disney Plus, TikTok, Netflix, Pinterest, and Uber, you’ll need to download the Amazon Appstore. You won’t be able to use every Android app in the Google Play Store, though.

You’ll need to download the Amazon Appstore and sign in or establish an Amazon account when the time comes. Then, just like on any other platform, you’ll be able to search for free or premium apps. Android apps will be incorporated into the Start bar and will have their own windows on the Taskbar.
