Considering how both new MacBooks are phenomenal workstations for creatives, the SD card reader is extremely welcome.

When it comes to performance, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is, for want of a better description, a beast. The 14-inch MacBook, with its M1 Pro 10 core CPU and 32GB of RAM, won every category we examined except one.
On the Geekbench 5 general performance multi-core test, it received a score of 12,477. When compared to the M1 MacBook Pro 2020’s 7,571 score, there’s absolutely no competition. Razer Blade 14 (7,471), XPS 15 (7,477), Surface Laptop Studio (5,820), and Dell XPS 13 (5,400) aren’t even close.
The performance of the 14-inch MacBook is detailed in our review, but it’s clear that the M1 Pro-powered laptop is no joke. Though it and its M1 Max-powered big brother fall short in terms of gaming performance, the laptop is nearly unequalled in the majority of areas.

The notch at the top centre of the display is one of the most common complaints about the new MacBook Pros. Because of the laptop’s reduced bezels, there is a notch. As we said in our review, the notch doesn’t play good with the iStat Menus application, with Menu Bar selections on the left and icons on the right reaching a breaking point, according to tech enthusiast Quinn Nelson.
To be honest, after a while, you grow used to the notch, and the Menu Bar aligns nicely with it. However, it is evident that the majority of people are unhappy with the notch. It’ll be fascinating to see what Apple plans to do about this in future MacBook versions, if anything.
Pricey
This is a complaint you can lobby at almost all Apple products, but the $1,999 asking price for the 14-inch MacBook Pro is certainly a major investment. It costs $200 more than its $1,799 MacBook Pro predecessor and $700 more than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1. Granted, the M1 Pro-powered machine is superior to both of the aforementioned MacBooks. But if you’re on a budget, the 14-inch laptop is hard to justify.
No USB-A ports
In today’s world, most electronics use USB-C as the default connector. However, USB-A is still used by a large number of devices. I’d have to use a USB-A adaptor to connect my Samson mic to the MacBook Pro. As we said in our review, you shouldn’t need to bring an adaptor with you while using these products on the road.
