Signs that your towels are in need of repair
The towels in question are what we’re talking about. To meet our needs, towels must be both resilient and absorbent. On a daily basis, most of us use our towels extensively, cleaning our bodies with them and allowing them to air dry in between usage. We tend to throw our towels in with the rest of the load while cleaning them, but this is where you can make a mistake and wind up ruining them.
So, how does this harm appear? In other words, you’re more likely to sense it than to see it. Your towels will lose their absorbency and will no longer dry as quickly as they once did. It’s worth noting that new towels come with a pretreatment to make them feel soft and fluffy before they’re washed for the first time. This will wash out naturally, so don’t be fooled.

You will damage your towels if you use fabric softener in every wash. Fabric softener is made from silicone oil, which coats your laundry in a waxy material to make it feel softer throughout the wash. However, because this coating must be water-resistant in order to survive the wash, it has an impact on the absorbency of any towels. The fabric softener coats the towel fibres, preventing them from absorbing as much water as they should.
It’s worth noting that dryer sheets include oils that have the same effect, so avoid using them while washing and drying towels.

How to make your towels soft without damaging them
To keep your towels soft, you don’t need to use fabric softener. Instead of using detergent, wash your towels once a month with a cup of white distilled vinegar. It’ll get rid of any soapy residue that’s making them feel scratchy and restore their absorbency. When washing towels in the future, try reducing the amount of detergent used so that less soap is retained. To completely clean the towels, you can also wash them at the highest temperature the towels will allow.
You may still use fabric softener on the rest of your load; you simply need to segregate your towels for their own wash, and make sure the machine isn’t overloaded.
