Motorola Edge 30 Neo hands-on

We had the opportunity to spend some time with the Motorola Edge 30 Neo after the company earlier today unveiled three new Edge 30 series phones. Here are our initial thoughts.

It’s not a negative thing that the phone feels light in the hand. Moto Edge 30 Neo seems sturdy despite being constructed of plastic, and the rear has a lovely frosted covering to deter smudges. Additionally, the back tapers to the sides, improving the in-hand feel.

Edge 30 Neo is the first phone to benefit from the newly formed partnership between Motorola and Pantone and it comes in four color options – Aqua Foam, Ice Palace, Black Onyx and Veri Peri. The latter is the Pantone color of the year 2022 and it stands out from the rest with its vibrant purple hue.

The 6.28-inch OLED screen feels quite manageable even with one hand and the 120Hz refresh rate helps the UI and apps feel snappy. The right-hand side has the power and volume keys while the left holds no buttons or cutouts. There’s a single speaker on the bottom next to the USB-C port and SIM slot.

Edge 30 Neo uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset and you get 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. This midrange chip has proven itself over time and we can expect solid performance in day to day tasks.

The back features a 64MP main cam with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide module – a fairly basic camera setup for 2022. We’ll make sure to test out how it fares in our full review.

One other cool feature is the LED ring around the camera island which alerts you about incoming notifications. There’s a 32MP front-facing module for selfies housed in a punch-hole cutout on the display.

The software interface is MyUX over Android 12 which looks and feels like any other Motorola phone from the past year. Motorola went with a 4,020 mAh battery with 68W wired charging and you also get wireless charging on board.

That’s all we have for today. We hope to get a unit at the office soon so we can give the Edge 30 Neo the full review treatment.
