Apple iPhone 14 in for review

The vanilla model is now the most affordable option from the core series in a world sans the iPhone mini. The smallest and lightest iPhone in the 14-series, meet the iPhone 14. It sports an A15 processor and a broad notch, unlike its Pro brothers.

It has improved sensors, autofocus for the selfie camera, and a little more powerful GPU than the iPhone 13. And while we are putting the finishing touches on its assessment, we thought we’d offer some preliminary thoughts.

Our product is blue, which is a colour that the iPhone 13 Pro had in a comparable shade. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 don’t appear to have any aesthetic differences, but after careful inspection, we discovered the dual-LED flash is now circular with one LED in the middle.

In certain places, the price has increased significantly as well, although in the US and China, it is unchanged from its predecessor. Both the selfie camera and the primary 12MP camera now support Cinematic Mode, and the selfie camera has a brighter f/1.9 lens up front.

While the chipset is again an A15 it’s actually the iPhone 13 Pro series version with a five-core graphics unit compared to four cores on the iPhone 13.

Another new feature that comes is Action Mode which provides better stabilization, and we happily found out it works with both the wide and ultrawide cameras. Sure, it might crop a lot but we appreciate the effort.

Thanks to its redesigned rear structure, the iPhone 14 is also the simplest iPhone to repair since the iPhone 7. It also includes a new emergency satellite message service, although that is only available in North America and will only be made available later at an undetermined cost.

Our device is European, thus we still receive a real SIM slot. A final shift will see users in the United States obtain phones without SIM slots and forced to rely on eSIM.

The testing have already started, and the review will happen soon. Remain tuned!
