As usual, before starting to write this essay, I chose the banner image from Getty Images. I didn’t read the mock-words up’s until I had already begun to type.
As you can see, the solution is fetus, a word that the New York Times actually removed from the list of possible answers due to the whole Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade, controversy. Since there are strong feelings on both sides of the issue, it seems like the newspaper of record is attempting to steer clear of controversy with its newest word game.
It makes sense that way. I won’t comment on the court’s judgment here because I also want to steer clear of controversy with my Wordle tutorials. However, I will discuss it in my devilish newsletter, so be sure to subscribe if you have the opportunity.
In any event, the Wordle of today is considerably less contentious (though I suppose fetuses, in and of themselves, are hardly that controversial, either). Let’s look at it!

Today’s Wordle answer June 28
Today’s Wordle answer is: DROLL.
Droll, which comes from the French word drôle, describes a humorous person. This typically means that they use sarcasm that some people would find offensive and have a particularly dry sense of humor. But dry humor isn’t always offensive! It simply takes some getting used to. However, it would be extremely impolite to reveal the Wordle solution before friends and relatives have had a chance to figure it out on their own.
