Expect the Samsung Galaxy S23’s telephoto camera to remain unchanged.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 is anticipated to provide a number of improvements over the outgoing generation. A new telephoto lens, however, might not be one of them.
According to sources who spoke with GalaxyClub, the 10MP telephoto camera found on the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will remain on the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. The telephoto zoom level of the S23 is unknown according to the sources, but it appears likely that the 3x lens on the S22 won’t change if the sensor does.
The 3x 10MP telephoto camera on the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus marked a significant improvement over the 64MP 3x hybrid zoom camera on the Galaxy S21. This is due to the fact that the new camera enables real 3x magnification rather than the previous combination of optical and digital zoom. We anticipate Samsung to keep improving this camera for at least another couple of years given the scale of this upgrade.
That doesn’t preclude further camera modifications, though. The 10MP sensor in the S22 may be replaced with a more recent model with the same resolution, or Samsung could alter the lens or underlying software to enhance performance without obviously changing the specs.
A front camera update for the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus has also been rumored. The selfie cameras on these two phones reportedly have a higher 12MP resolution for better images.
There are currently no rumors regarding upgrades to the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s single front camera or its four rear cameras. The S23 Ultra won’t feature Samsung’s newest 200MP camera sensor, that is all we know about this model. Instead, Samsung might opt to use an older 200MP camera, as was rumored for earlier Ultra phones.
Other hints for the Galaxy S23 series include assertions that the storage would support UFS 4.0 for faster data transfers and that the battery will be more compact, potentially allowing for a larger battery to fit in the same space. According to one source, the S23 family may not feature the typical Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos silicon but rather a MediaTek CPU.
