For the first time in nearly two years, OnePlus will introduce a ‘T’ variant of its flagship phones in October 2020. A excellent smartphone, but not as revolutionary as OnePlus T phones once were. However, the OnePlus 10T, which will be available later this year, suggests that the firm is hoping to recapture some of its former glory.

In addition to Qualcomm’s latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip and well-known features like super-fast charging and a display with a high refresh rate, the OnePlus 10T is likely to take inspiration from the OnePlus 10 Pro. Because the 10 Pro didn’t come with a standard counterpart like past OnePlus phones, it’s unclear if the 10T will replace the 10 Pro or provide OnePlus fans with a standard non-pro phone.

When it launches on August 3, we can see what OnePlus has in store for the 10T and whether or not the company returns to manufacturing competitively-priced phones with a spectacular specs sheet. So far, this is what we know about the OnePlus 10T.

The release date of the OnePlus 10T

OnePlus 10T will be unveiled in person in New York City on August 3rd during an official launch event. After the OnePlus 7T launched in 2019, this will be the first in-person unveiling since then.

The launch will be webcast live starting at 7 a.m. PT, 10 a.m. ET, and 3 p.m. BST on all three of those time zones. And it’ll be available to view on the OnePlus channel on YouTube (opens in new tab).

OnePlus hasn’t announced a date for pre-order or sale, but we expect pre-orders to begin on the same day as the phone’s debut a week or two later. The OnePlus 10T may not be as easy to buy as the OnePlus 10 Pro, so be prepared for an invite-only release.

Predicted prices for the OnePlus 10T.

The OnePlus 10T’s price hasn’t been revealed by the company. However, given that it’s going to sport a high-end Snapdragon chipset, we expect it to cost more than some of the mid-range phones on our best phones list.

A starting price of $899/£799 was announced for the OnePlus 10 Pro, and we expect the 10T to be priced the same. Our ideal scenario is for OnePlus to price the 8T aggressively, making it a flagship-killer competitor at $599, like the Google Pixel 6. If you want to get your hands on one of the most powerful OnePlus devices, you’ll have to shell out a lot of money.

The display and design of the OnePlus 10T

A teaser photograph of the OnePlus 10T has been revealed, but it doesn’t reveal much about the phone’s appearance. It appears to have a similar design to the OnePlus 10 Pro, with a slightly curved shell and a matte finish on the rear.

In terms of screen size, we expect OnePlus will use a 6.7-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate that can be dynamically adjusted. As the OnePlus 10 Pro boasts a stunning AMOLED display, we don’t expect any substantial modifications to the 10T. Color and contrast modifications may also be utilized to better match the screen to the material it is displaying.

Teaser images show an intentionally concealed rear camera module, which could indicate that OnePlus has moved on from the square camera module that encircled the left edge of its 10 Pro model. Alternatively, it might be that OnePlus intends to hide the number of cameras on the 10T by preserving the same design.

However, newer teasers have showed that there’s no alert slider on the edges. If only there was an easy method to turn off annoying notifications without having to go into the app’s settings. When we get to review the phone, we’ll have to see if OnePlus’ claims that this was necessary to boost battery size, charging speed and 5G connection are true.

Specifications and battery life of the OnePlus 10T

Only the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus has been confirmed for the OnePlus 10T, an increase from the 10 Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. With a motto like “Evolve Beyond Speed,” we’d expect this to be the 10T’s main update.

There is more power but less power usage in Qualcomm’s new flagship chipset. Considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can handle very little, we’re not overly enthusiastic about a bit more power. Better battery life should be the result of increased efficiency.

When it comes to its battery life, we’d expect to see the 10T’s 5,000 mAh battery being used, but by using a newer Snapdragon chip the 10T might top the 11 hours and 52 minutes of the 10 Pro. So it’s a safe bet that this phone will be included on our list of the best mobile battery life.

Fast charging from 80 watts to 150 watts is possible. Why? Because OnePlus 10R owners in India have access to Oppo’s 150W SUPERVOOC charging, which could easily be ported over to the 10T, making it an easy upgrade. It’s possible that OnePlus’ 65W fast charging standard in the U.S. may not benefit from an upgrade to a higher standard in other countries.

8GB and 12GB RAM variants are expected, as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. However, it’s possible that OnePlus will only offer 12GB of RAM for the 10T, keeping with the company’s performance-focused positioning.

The cameras on the OnePlus 10T are quite impressive.

So yet, OnePlus hasn’t released any information about the 10T’s cameras. In contrast to this, one rumor indicates that the back camera array will include a 50MP main sensor, along with 8MP and 2MP ultra-wide and depth-sensing cameras.

To put it another way, this would result in a total decrease in the OnePlus 10 Pro’s main, ultrawide and telephoto cameras, which now have 48, 50 and 8 MP sensors respectively. We don’t expect the OnePlus 10T’s cameras to be downgraded, given the company’s emphasis on performance and innovation. The only exception to this is if the company intends to produce a lower-cost device that does not make use of a high-end Snapdragon chip.

Whatever the specifications, we hope OnePlus has worked on the software side to further improve the photography performance of its flagship phones. We were impressed with the 10 Pro’s phone photography, but we couldn’t compete with the iPhone, Google, or Samsung cameras.

The OnePlus 10T’s future is bright.

If OnePlus can improve on the 10 Pro’s strengths with the 10T, we may have a new competitor for our best phones list. OnePlus, on the other hand, must contend with the likes of the iPhone 14 Pro and Google Pixel 7 in the autumn, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which is still an excellent phone.

The 10T could return to its flagship-killer roots if OnePlus can aggressively price it and include some smart software features in OxygenOS 13, and this would make the 10T a phone worth paying attention to.
