In the coming months, Running With The Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee
Netflix’s true crime documentaries often rank among the finest, and the company’s upcoming release appears to be another smash.
Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee will follow the antivirus magnate following the 2012 murder of his neighbor in Belize, according to Deadline(opens in a new tab). A suspect in the murder investigation, McAfee went on the run to elude officials and a Mexican cartel, which he claimed was after him. He died in a car accident last year.
Because he was terrified of being killed while in police custody, as you can see in the clip below, McAfee brought a video team with him so that they could document the whole ordeal.
From everything we’ve learned thus far, it promises to be an engrossing spectacle. Interviews were done with people who were close to the entrepreneur, whose net worth was estimated at $100 million at one point.
McAfee was apprehended in Guatemala in December 2012 after fleeing into the Belizean rainforest with a slew of weapons, narcotics, and alcohol. He was later extradited to the United States. However, his actions became even more odd in the years that followed.
There was, for example, the Bitfi crypto wallet hack, the multiple attempts to run for President, the $1,100 hack-proof phone that ran on Android, and his repeated promotion of cryptocurrencies, which resulted in him being indicted for fraud and money laundering in early 2021.
Adding insult to injury, McAfee evaded U.S. authorities for tax evasion in 2019. Spain’s National Court approved his extradition to Tennessee in June 2021, after he was arrested in Spain in late 2020. McAfee’s death was deemed a suicide a few hours later.
Running With The Devil may shed some light on the mentality of John McAfee, a colorful figure to say the least. Compared to Tiger King’s Joe Exotic, it may possibly be considered mild.
Curious Films is making a 105-minute documentary about John McAfee called Running With The Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee, which will be released on Netflix on August 24.
