A Nashville, Tennessee man was arrested for using an Apple Watch and a tracking software to follow the position of his girlfriend’s car.
According to an affidavit, 29-year-old Lawrence Welch was detained Friday and accused with affixing an electronic monitoring device to a car. Welsh decided to utilise an Apple Watch instead of AirTags for tracking purposes in this case.
When a report came in from security that the boyfriend of a victim had come up, police were sent to a Family Safety Center. According to WSMV4, the woman had previously visited the facility and said that she had received repeated threats to murder her.
While Welch had previously used Life360 to keep tabs on her and her ex-whereabouts, husband’s she had reportedly switched it off before attending Family Safety Centers in the past. As a result, she received a barrage of text messages from him demanding she divulge her whereabouts, as well as urging her to return his call.
Though he ultimately arrived to the Family Service Center, Welch is said to have stayed in the victim’s vehicle instead of walking toward the door. Police found Welch’s Apple Watch hooked to the spokes of the car when they arrived there.
Welch seems to have used the victim’s Life360 app on the victim’s Apple Watch to hunt her down, despite the fact that it had been deactivated on the victim’s phone.
There were two domestic violence accusations against Welch in July 2021, and the latest incident was a continuation of those occurrences. In December, he was detained in connection with the occurrences.
Since most stalking-related tales from late 2021 and early 2022 have used AirTags, the usage of Apple Watch is rare. Anti-stalking features have rescued some people by alerting them to its existence, but it has also been the focus of several articles describing efforts to stalk targets as well as numerous complaints from critics.
