The release of the new MacBook Air may be delayed, but it is still possible that it will come this year. Reports indicate the predicted MacBook Air revamp will come later in 2022, with revisions expected for the 14-inch and the 16-inch MacBook Pros in 2023.
There have been reports that Apple might unveil new MacBook models during the “Peek Performance” event, including an upgrade to the MacBook Air line and maybe some MacBook Pro upgrades. A lack of Macbooks at the event has sparked conjecture about their whereabouts. According to rumours, the introduction of the predicted MacBook Air 2022 has been pushed back till later in the year.
According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, a refreshed MacBook Air won’t be available until the end of 2022 at the earliest. So far, so good, however Gurman believes that the laptop was initially scheduled to be released in late 2021 or early 2022.
There has been no official word on why the machine has been delayed, although supply chain concerns seem like a possibility.
Gurman also reaffirmed reports regarding the MacBook Air’s design, which he has previously said. A new design, MagSafe, the M2 chip, and more are all said to be included. Other than being lighter and less powerful, it sounds a lot like the modifications that arrived with the current MacBook Pros.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, full manufacturing of the MacBook Air 2022 might begin as early as the third quarter, indicating a debut as early as the autumn.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, according to Gurman, will not get an upgrade this year. New “M2 Pro” and “M2 Max” chips are anticipated in 2023, along with those already mentioned. According to this logic, given that those computers have only been running for less than a year.
Apple is also said to be aiming for an 18-month chip lifespan in the past. That suggests an April debut if Apple is able to keep to the schedule. This is based on the assumption that there would be no delays or problems with the supply chain in the next year.
However, there have been rumours that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro 2022 is on the way this year. The 2020 MacBook Pro, which released with the final MacBook Air and was powered by the original Apple M1 processor, will be replaced by this computer. The anticipated M2 processor is believed to power the next model.
However, there is currently no known release date for such gadget. Since the final MacBook Pro was released in 2020, it would make sense for the M2 chip and the MacBook Air to be released at the same time in 2022, too.
