After the Calgary Flames and the Florida Panthers struck a deal on Friday night, the NHL went into the weekend buzzing with anticipation.

When Johnny Gaudreau left as a free agent, it seemed as though Tkachuk’s days in southern Alberta were numbered. But now, The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford and Hailey Salvian report that Tkachuk has told the Flames that he has no interest in staying with the team past next season, when he will be a free agent.

Brad Treliving, the Flames general manager, had to come up with a Plan B to replace a departing star while keeping the team competitive for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
