Mira Sorvino’s father Paul Sorvino, an American actor known for his performance in “Goodfellas,” has passed away at the age of 83, his family announced Monday.
“I’m in a complete state of shock. I’ve lost the love of my life and the greatest man to ever walk the planet. It has torn my heart “Dee Dee Sorvino, his widow, posted a message on Facebook.
Known for his portrayal as Paul Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film “Goodfellas,” in which he appeared with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Ray Liotta, Paul Sorvino was born in New York City on April 4, 1939.
The next year, he made a name for himself as a police officer on the hit show “Law & Order.” He played Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone’s 1995 film “Nixon,” in which he played the part of the diplomat.
Sorvino, who won an Oscar for her portrayal in Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite” in 1996, has died, his daughter Mira Sorvino announced on Twitter.
‘A life of love, laughter, and wisdom with him has come to an end,’ she said.
It’s no secret that Paul Sorvino was an accomplished actor who also dabbled in a variety of artistic pursuits, including sculpture and opera.
The Orlando Weekly quotes him as saying, “Most people believe I’m either a gangster or a cop or something, but the reality is I’m a sculptor, a painter, a best-selling author… but none of them is gangster, but, you know, obviously I sort of have a talent for portraying these things….
