With the speculated Apple Watch “Pro” model, Apple might give its Apple Watch the greatest cosmetic overhaul in years.

Reliable tipster Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that the long-rumored squared-off design will not be included in the upcoming Pro model. This could be a “evolution of the current rectangular shape and not round,” according to Gurman’s Power On newsletter(opens in new tab). The sides will not be flat.

Rumors have been circulating that Apple is planning to release not one, but as many as three different models of the Apple Watch this year (or it could just be called the Apple Watch Pro). Apple Watch 8 and a new Apple Watch SE could both be unveiled at the same time. But the Pro is supposed to be the series’ most tough, athletic, and luxurious model.

Gurman claims that the Apple Watch Pro’s display screen will be “a fair bit larger.” So much so that “only a fraction of buyers” may find it appealing. 7 percent larger than Apple’s basic Watch, according to a report. If this is true, it’s something that we’ve heard before, and Gurman had previously stated that the display might be 2 inches diagonally long. However, a 7 percent increase in screen size could indicate that the device’s display is larger than previously imagined.

When it comes to materials, the Pro is going to separate itself out from the rest. A “durable type of titanium” is supposedly in the works to give it even more sturdiness.

Even the Apple Watch 8 could feature a temperature sensor, as Gurman recently speculated. The Apple Watch Pro could possibly have a longer battery life and a new body temperature sensor. It’s possible the Pro might run on a single charge for several days, thanks to the suspected low-power mode, he claims.

There hasn’t been much progress in other sensors, according to Gurman, who predicts that the blood pressure sensor will be available in 2025 and the glucose sensor won’t be ready until later in the decade.

In terms of new sensors, only the body temperature sensor will make its debut. The Pro is expected to run on the same S8 chip that powers the Apple Watch 7 and 6 models, just like the Apple Watch 8.

Pro tier of Apple Watch could target athletes or intensive exercises if they are launched this year. Enhanced hiking and swimming monitoring capabilities are reportedly rumored to be included in the device’s features list. With all of Apple’s “Pro” features, it could easily compete with high-end Garmin sports watches, and it might also command a significantly higher price. Gurman had previously anticipated that the Apple Watch Pro would cost $1,000.

However, it is not yet clear whether the Apple Watch Pro will have functions that are truly “Pro” level. An Apple Watch launch is expected to be “among this year’s more intriguing product launches,” says Gurman.
