How to Play Minecraft on Oculus Quest 2

Must Read

This guide will show you how to use your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 virtual reality headset to play Minecraft. Instructions are provided for both the Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft.

What You Should Know

  • A VR-ready computer and a connection cable are required to play Minecraft on your Quest.
  • Using the link cable, you may play both the Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft.

Can You Play Minecraft on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2?

The Rift VR headset has a native version of Minecraft Bedrock edition, although Minecraft isn’t accessible for Quest or Quest 2. Minecraft may still be played on this platform, but only if you have a VR-ready PC and a connection cable. Your computer runs the Minecraft software and provides visual data to the headset, allowing you to play Minecraft in VR as long as you stay connected to your computer.

Some versions of Minecraft may be played on your Quest, however the procedures are slightly different. If you don’t already own either version, you’ll need to buy one before you can begin your Quest.

Here are the Minecraft versions available on Quest:

  • Windows 10 (Bedrock) edition: This is the Minecraft version available via the Microsoft Store. It includes built-in VR capabilities and is simple to set up, but it cannot be modded in the same manner as the Java version can.
  • Java edition: This is the original version of Minecraft, and there are numerous free mods accessible online. It’s a little more difficult to get this version working in VR because you’ll need to install Java, Steam, and Steam VR if you haven’t already, but the implementation is more intriguing. You can mine bricks, for example, by physically swinging your controllers.

How to Play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Meta (Oculus) Quest or Quest 2

On your Quest, you can also play Minecraft Java Edition in VR, although it’s more difficult. It requires the Vivecraft mod, which allows the Java edition of Minecraft to run in VR. The VR implementation in this version is more robust than the one in Bedrock, with various movement and interaction options to personalise your experience.

To play Minecraft Java Edition on Quest, you must first install Java, then Steam and then Steam VR. If you do not already have all three installed, please sure to do so before continuing.
