The latest Google Camera app update has references to 4K selfie video recording being available for both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, according to Google(opens in new tab). Prior to now, this was only a Pixel 6 Pro feature, but the code expressly refers to both forthcoming versions.
The code does not give any information on the hardware, but the ability to support 4K video could suggest that the Pixel 6’s 8MP selfie camera sensor could be replaced with the 11.1MP one from the Pro variant, or at least with one with a higher resolution. However, we haven’t heard of any rumors in that direction.
Contrarily, it appears that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro’s cameras won’t differ from those of their predecessors from a year ago. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro should yet experience some tuning, which might help them maintain their position on our list of the best camera phones.
