The Samsung Galaxy S22 is scheduled to debut in early 2022, however, it may not be as soon as some have anticipated. And the reason for the Galaxy S22’s delay appears to be Samsung’s attempt to take place on the market for a new phone.
That would be the Galaxy S21 FE, a long-rumoured but seldom seen variant of the Galaxy S21 that’s meant to provide Samsung fans with a low-cost alternative to the flagship this year. We were expecting the Galaxy S21 FE to arrive in October, but that’s not going to happen — unless you like last-minute October surprises — and the S21 FE’s absence led to speculation that the phone had been scrapped.
Now, according to Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 will begin in February, indicating that the flagship will not be released in January like the Galaxy S21 did last year. Instead, Prosser cites a previous storey stating that the Galaxy S21 FE will be released on January 11th.
A different leak from Sammobile earlier this month said that the Galaxy S21 FE will be released in January, delaying the S22’s release to make way.
The creation of a launch window for the Galaxy S21 FE, which we’ll remind you is expected to be a scaled-down version of a flagship phone that will be approximately a year old by the time the S21 FE is reported to arrive, appears to be a lot of fuss. The Galaxy S20 FE, its predecessor, was a popular phone, but only because it was $300 less expensive than the Galaxy S20 that came before it.
There’s not much room for a phone with the price tag and capabilities rumoured for the Galaxy S21 FE, which is supposed to have the same Snapdragon 888 chipset and 120Hz display as the S21 w, with Samsung dropping the starting price of the Galaxy S21 while boosting the features of its midrange Galaxy A phones.
Samsung has a history of releasing a stripped-down version of one of its flagships just before a big launch. It did exactly that with the Galaxy S10 Lite, which was released in January 2020, just before the Galaxy S20 was released in February of that year.
The Galaxy S22 would certainly be the more important of the reported Samsung phones. It’ll have a faster processor, a brighter screen, an under-display camera, and support for the S Pen. Samsung will need to make the case that this phone is an improvement over the Galaxy S21 — if it’s not already busy trying to justify the release of the Galaxy S21 FE a month earlier.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S21 FE will be released in January, which means it will miss the Christmas season, when firms promote and sell their finest Android phones.
This would be about the same time as the Galaxy S22 series, which would most likely conflict. Instead of launching the Galaxy S22 series in January, Samsung may wait until February to give the Galaxy S21 FE some breathing room.
The Galaxy S21 FE, according to the leaker Ice Universe, might be released with the S22 series. However, that tweet has now been removed, implying that this isn’t the case.
The situation with the S21 FE has been intriguing, with leaks and speculations battling it out over whether or not we’ll see the gadget. Samsung has apparently fallen into production challenges with the gadget as a result of the semiconductor scarcity, putting the device’s debut in jeopardy.
Of course, we should all take this with a grain of salt until Samsung confirms it. We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment on its intentions, and we’ll keep you updated if we hear back.
Given the delays and production issues, Samsung might be better off abandoning the Galaxy S21 FE and introducing its next flagship series in January instead (or even December),especially since the S22 series is likely right around the corner with what could be some very enticing changes.
