Apple is adding a proper battery-saving mode to watchOS 9

Must Read

The company is finally delivering a true power-saving mode to the Apple Watch in a new watchOS 9 upgrade. It can be manually engaged using the Control Center or the Settings menu. It also alerts the user when the battery is only 10% charged. When it hits 80% on the charger, it automatically turns off.

The battery-saving mode disables the more resource-intensive features, such as AoD, heart rate notifications, arrhythmia tracking, heart rate and blood oxygen measurements. Workout reminders are also disabled.

Surprisingly, if no iPhone is connected to the watch nearby, it will turn off Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. Incoming phone calls and notifications are likewise turned off. Obviously, if you require a specific app that requires a data or Wi-Fi connection, the system will re-enable it. If the watch remains within the phone’s range, it will delay alerts and deliver them every hour.

Of course, the overall performance of the watch will be lowered in the new battery-saving mode, so animations and navigation will seem less fluid.
